Summary: | Geographer Arthur H. Robinson retired as Lawrence Martin Professor of Cartography at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. From the beginning of his graduate education in the late 1930s, he recognized the importance of maps and their contributions not just to geographers, but to anyone who needs to visualize space and understand spatial relationships in order to perform systematic planning, analysis, or complex modeling of human activities. His most important contribution to cartographic education is his textbook, Elements of Cartography, the primary and preeminent university level English language cartography textbook for four decades. |
