Description
Summary:Most danger signs, such as cyanosis, sleepiness, and inability to feed, are associated with an increased probability of hypoxaemia, but these can be hard to detect.14 Hypoxaemia is the most precise indicator of mortality risk in pneumonia.4 Pulse oximetry is not widely available in developing countries and oxygen saturation was not reported in this study; however, more widespread use of this technology might help identify children who need hospital admission from those who can be safely treated at home.5 The added safety and cost-efficiency of this could be substantial.
