Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and metformin: a cause for concern?

A case of severe lactic acidosis is described in a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus on long-term metformin therapy, who developed acute renal failure after recent treatment with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
