Description
Summary:BASED UPON A MODEL OF THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SUCCESS, THE FOLLOWING SERIES OF RELATIONSHIPS WAS PREDICTED FOR PARTICIPANTS IN A SIMULATED MANAGEMENT EXERCISE - 1. GOALS, 2. EFFORTS, 3. PERFORMANCE, 4. PSYCHOLOGICAL SUCCESS, 5. SELF ESTEEM, AND 6. LATER GOALS. TWO MEASUREMENTS WERE TAKEN, AND THE RELATIONSHIPS WERE TESTED WITH PATH ANALYSIS AND CROSS LAGGED CORRELATIONS. EXCEPT FOR EFFORT LEADING TO PERFORMANCE, SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIPS INDICATED SUPPORT FOR A CYCLICAL MODEL OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT. CORRELATIONAL CAUSAL ANALYSIS INDICATED THAT GOOD PERFORMANCE LEADS TO INCREASED INVOLVEMENT. PERFORMANCE OVERALL HAD LITTLE DIRECT IMPACT ON FUTURE GOALS. ITS EFFECT ON THE SETTING OF GOALS APPEARED TO BE INDIRECT WORKING THROUGH TASK ATTITUDES. CHARTS. TABLES. REFERENCES.
