Summary: | Enterprise resources planning (ERP) system applications, which are popular with large, predominately manufacturing companies, are now expanding to smaller, more service-oriented businesses. A persistent problem with ERP, or enterprise systems, has been cost, whether the company involved is large or small. This article suggests several approaches to successfully implementing ERP and details five strategic areas for controlling the so-called hidden costs of system implementation: (1) training, (2) integration and testing, (3) data conversion, (4) data analysis, and (5) transitioning from consultants. |
