Description
Summary:Technology assessment, which is a process used in the healthcare field to address decision-making under uncertainty, can be applied to occupational safety. The goal is to provide management with information needed to formulate operating parameters of an industry-based technology assessment committee that functions as part of a decision process for safety risk assessment. Technology assessment is a comprehensive form of policy research that examines the short-and long-term consequences (societal, economic, ethical and legal) of the application technology. Using the process of technology assessment within an industrial setting introduces a somewhat-academic process into the operational real-world. Within a business setting, the traditional committee structure is a valid way to attempt a formal decision-making process based on technology assessment.
