Description
Summary:Purpose Stiffness of the finger joints can be caused by intrinsic or extrinsic tightness, or a combination of factors including edema, adaptive shortening and / or tightening of the joint capsule, ligaments, fascia, and / or the muscle tendon unit. Methods This presentation will outline the fabrication steps of a Dynamic and/ or Static Progressive Composite Finger Flexion Orthosis using a simple circumferential wrist orthosis as the base, and an inexpensive garden glove with different tying mechanisms as the underlying outrigger. By comparing a pre-treatment passive ROM measure with a post- treatment (heat, movement and end range stretch) passive ROM measure, clinicians can select the most appropriate static, dynamic, or static progressive orthosis, for clients with stiff joints.
