THE DIFFERENT EFFECTS OF STATIN AND EZETIMIBE COMBINATION ON CORONARY ATHEROMA PLAQUE IN PATIENTS WITH AND WITHOUT DIABETES MELLITUS: SUB-ANALYSIS OF PRECISE-IVUS TRIAL
Background Previous studies have showed that the intensive lipid lowering therapy (ILLT) with statins could decrease coronary atheroma plaque, but the effect is weak in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods This study was the sub-analysis of PRECISE-IVUS (Plaque...

Summary: | Background Previous studies have showed that the intensive lipid lowering therapy (ILLT) with statins could decrease coronary atheroma plaque, but the effect is weak in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods This study was the sub-analysis of PRECISE-IVUS (Plaque REgression with Cholesterol absorption Inhibition or Synthesis inhibition Evaluated by IntraVascular UltraSound) trial, which is the prospective, randomized controlled, multicenter trial enrolled 246 patients undergoing intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided PCI randomized to atorvastatin/ezetimibe combination (AE group) or atorvastatin alone (A group) to evaluate the coronary anti-atherosclerotic effect by ILLT [the dosage of atorvastatin was up-titrated with a treatment goal of lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) below 70mg/dL]. |
