Summary:This research examines the values of the SME leaders of a desindustralised region in order to explain how they understand their commitment to sustainable development, what is their grounding in the local community and how they view their responsibility for its development. We found that SME leaders have a traditional understanding of their responsibilities, and that even if their values are consistent with sustainable development, they remain focused on their business and barely envision themselves as key actors in the future, the development and the transition of the region.
