Description
Summary:The biodiesel production is gradually increasing due to environmental advantages and reduction in dependence on petroleum based diesel fuels. Biodiesel is an oxygenated alternative diesel fuel obtained from renewable sources such as vegetable oil and animal fats. Therefore, many number of studies have been performed related to the production and the use of biodiesel. In this study, the effect of the use of olive oil, as alternative fuel, on engine performance and exhaust emissions in a single cylinder diesel engine were investigated. Diesel fuel and olive oil were used. In order to determine emission and performance characteristics, the engine was tested with full load-varied speed and constant speed-varied load tests. Chemical and physical properties of the raw olive oil were improved mixing with diesel fuel. Experimental results showed that, when olive oil and mixtures are used, the lower engine performance and NOX, and higher exhaust emissions were detected compared to the diesel fuel used engine performance.
