Description
Summary:An abstract of a study by Price et al that examines the effect of trace mineral source on postweaning Bos Taurus beef bull sexual development is presented. The objective was to evaluate the effect of postweaning trace mineral (TM) source on sexual development in Angus (n = 9) and Aubrac (n = 5) bulls. Bulls (231 ± 4 d, 260 ± 5 kg, n = 14, 7 per TM) were randomly assigned to TM (inorganic as salt sulfates, ING; organic as Se-yeast and proteinates) based on sire, age and weaning BW. Bull pubertal traits were not affected by TM source. However, TM source may shorten the time it takes bulls to reach sexual maturity.
