Summary: | Continuous respiratory monitoring is important in a hospital environment. It has the potential to reduce mortality in central sleep apnea. Remote monitoring can be achieved using electromagnetic waves. A leaky‐wave array antenna using substrate‐integrated waveguide technology is proposed in remote respiratory sensing. It operates between 8 and 9 GHz and offers inexpensive beam‐scanning ability to scan a hospital bed and locate patient's chest for monitoring. The proposed antenna is also tested in detecting simulated chest movements manifested as phase variations of back reflected signal and converted to displacement data. |
