Description
Summary:During its 25 year history System Dynamics has frequently attracted criticism. This paper argues that, in part, this is explicable in terms of certain characteristics of the approach adopted by most workers in the field. The major features of this approach are reviewed and assessed from a general perspective. Those aspects of the method that are related to model construction and use are then examined in more detail and certain suggestions are made as to how its utility might be enhanced with the aid of techniques developed in other fields. The paper concludes with a brief examination of those areas in which increased application of System Dynamics ideas is envisaged.
