Summary: | Managing operations in today's competitive marketplace poses significant challenges. The advent of total quality management to achieve flawless quality, flexible manufacturing systems to achieve quick response and agile manufacturing at low cost, and effective supply chain management (SCM) mechanisms to deliver products quickly with low inventories can all be regarded as responses to new competitive pressures. SCM is the focus: 1. A taxonomical framework for analyzing supply chains from an operational perspective is proposed. 2. The relevant decisions at each stage of the supply chain are identified. 3. The relevant literature on production/distribution planning at each stage in the chain is reviewed and critically evaluated. |
