Summary: | It is widely recognised that Australia faces numerous challenges in its effort to engage effectively with East Asia. The dimensions of this challenge are frequently defined by the political, economic, social and security differences that so often appear to divide Australia from the region. When considering these differences, relatively little public acknowledgment is ever given to the role of law and the impact it may have on shaping closer relations. Perhaps the issue is not as visible as the future of Australia's economic or security relations with the region, but it is difficult to accept that it is any less important. |
