Summary:The just-in-time (JIT) philosophy is revolutionizing U.S. manufacturing and distribution with a system that is more responsive to customer needs and desires. However, to operationalize the JIT philosophy, organizations must address the effect this system will have on channel power, conflict, and cooperation. This article briefly reviews the constructs of power, conflict, and cooperation and shows that JIT can, if implemented correctly, reduce channel conflict and improve channel cooperation.
