Description
Summary:With the increasing use of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) nationally, several states have developed systems to recognize exemplar schools that are implementing PBIS with fidelity. These systems serve the dual purpose of identifying model PBIS schools for other schools to emulate while also reinforcing schools' effective PBIS practice and outcomes. The authors (a) review the defining features of current statewide PBIS recognition systems; (b) provide a descriptive narrative on the development, implementation, initial outcomes, and refinement of Ohio's PBIS Recognition System and PBIS Showcase event; and (c) offer recommendations for practice based on this work to assist those interested in establishing a PBIS recognition system at the state or local level.
