Description
Summary:A survey in July 2016 indicated 52 percent of Nebraska farmers and ranchers were financially stressed. Binary logit models were used to determine variables that impacted the likelihood a producer was financially stressed as well as how they were planning to react to it. Characteristics that indicated producers were finically stressed included location (district), younger producers, less education, crop producers and those with lower owners’ equity. Results suggest that while certain variables indicate producers are more likely to be stressed the same variable may not be an indicator of the likelihood they are trying to increase income or decrease operating costs.
