Summary: | Facing both the global water issues and the fact that the quest for solutions will probably cross generational borders - according to a UN survey on the important issues for the 21st century water ranks 2nd - the water sector is focusing more and more on the younger generation. This culminated, in June 2001, with the Youth World Water Forum, sponsored by institutions like UNEP, UNESCO and the Global Water Partnership. Since the future is said to be in the hands of the next generation 220 young professionals, aged 18 to 25, from 33 different countries, were challenged to come up with a vision and action plans on how to tackle the most urgent water issues that must be faced now and in the coming 25 years. |
