Summary:Background and objectives: Anaemia is ubiquitous yet imperceptible among adolescents, especially in developing countries. It is associated with poor cognitive and learning ability and likely risk of morbidity and mortality. Furthermore, knowledge of anaemia among adolescent in sub-Saharan African countries especially Nigeria is often under-reported in literature. In this study, we assessed the knowledge of anaemia among in-school adolescents in Delta state, South-south Nigeria. Methods: Using a multi-stage sampling technique, 498 inschool adolescents; selected after duly informed consent from secondary schools across Delta state, Nigeria completed validated semi-structured questionnaires on socio-demographic characteristics and knowledge of anaemia was evaluated using a validated 15-point knowledge scale. Respondents were categorised as early adolescent (EA) or late adolescent (LA) by their age; 10-14years and 15-19years respectively.
