Summary:« Camus or the artist at work » aims to remind some aspects of the rich personal, literary and intellectual path of the writer and French thinker Albert Camus. This portrait is drawn from his short story « Jonas or the Artist at Work » written around 1953. In this tale, Camus offers a biting satire of the Parisian intellectual and artistic circle, which became for him an oppressive milieu since the controversy caused by the publication of his essay The Rebel, which opposes him to the sartrian and communist intellectuals. This philosophical story, enigmatic and less known than the his major novels The Stranger, The Plague or The Fall, will allow us to look deeper into the tragic world of the author : Camus, mirroring the painter Jonas as well as the stranger Meursault, doctor Rieux and the judge-penitent Clamence), feels torn between solitude and solidarity.
