Description
Summary:[Display omitted] •A colorimetric and turn-on fluorescent probe for Al(III) was designed and synthesized.•The probe L exhibited high selectivity towards Al3+ over other metal ions in EtOH: H2O (3: 1) solution.•The probe L exhibited high sensitivity for Al3+ with the detection limit reaching 10−8 M level in EtOH: H2O (3: 1) solution.•The solution of L was easily observed from colorless to yellow by the naked-eye in the presence of Al3+. In this study, a new fluorescent probe, 6-hydroxychromone-3-carbaldehyde- (3′-hydroxy-2′-naphthaleneformyl) hydrazone (L), for Al3+ was designed and synthesized. The probe L exhibited high selectivity towards Al3+ with significant fluorescence intensity enhancement at 503 nm. Nevertheless, other metal ions had no such significant effects on the fluorescence emission. Furthermore, the detection limit of L for Al3+ was as low as 10−8 M level. More importantly, L could be served as a potential colorimetric probe for Al3+, which was easily observed from colorless to yellow by the naked-eye in the presence of Al3+.
