Description
Summary:This article details the six projects that the architect Félix Candela, through his company Cubiertas Ala, carried out in the city of Cali (Colombia) between 1958 and 1961 in association with local architects. The first part presents Colombian precedents in the construction of membrane vaults executed mainly in reinforced ceramic. The second part explains how Candela met Colombian architects and engineers and details the six projects that are the focus of this article based on their typological and constructive characteristics. Finally, an analysis is done on the influence these designs had on local tradition, promoting a more generalized use of reinforced concrete and promoting a formal search in the field of laminar structures adaptable to the conditions of the place.
