Description
Summary:New data on the geological structure of the upper part of the Sortavala volcanic section are presented. The chronostratigraphic correlation of successions of the Karelian Complex in the northern Ladoga region and the Svecofennian area of Finland suggests the following conclusion. Deposition of the Sortavala volcanosedimentary complex, its metamorphism, erosion, and unconformable overlapping by Ladoga quartzites and arkosic sandstones predated the Svecofennian subduction in the pericraton zone.
