Description
Summary:An experiment has demonstrated the consistency of characteristic velocity of the relative displacements of the walls of seismogenic fractures. Under different tectonic conditions, this parameter varies only within one order of magnitude: from n to 10n mm/yr. It is natural to suppose that such consistency is determined not so much by the loading conditions (e.g., velocity of the displacement of plates in the plate tectonics models), but mainly by internal properties of the geological medium. In this work, the authors suggest a possible interpretation of this fundamental empirical law based on laboratory experiments.
