Summary: | Feminism and the Politics of the Profession presents authors who "examine the context of institutional life and professional development and raise critical questions about the politics of the profession, including issues such as working conditions, opportunities for publication, the gendered nature of teaching, the status of composition studies in the academy, and women's roles in the field" (6). Because the collection preserves a focus on composition and rhetoric, and thus excludes important work from a variety of related perspectives, the collection closes with a list of suggested readings from these other disciplineswomen's studies, cultural studies, critical theory, queer theory, philosophy, political science, psychology, education, and anthropology-which underscore the editors' position that feminism and composition are "situated at the nexus of many disciplines" (3). |
