Summary:In this study, chromium nanocomposite doped with yttrium oxide in pure form with a size range from 20-60nm were synthesized by modified controlled co-precipitation method and investigated for their various electric and optical properties. Chromium sulphate is used as a precursor in co-precipitation method and NaOH as gelation agent. During the precipitation of the hydroxides PH is maintained > 9 using NaOH solution. The greenish brown precipitate was filtered, washed with water, ethanol and water (2:8 volume %), dried at 100°C, calcinated at 650°C to obtain pure nanocomposite powder. Chromium nanocomposite doped with various concentrations of yttrium (1-8%). Optical spectrum is obtained from variable angle ellipso spectrometer. X-ray diffraction is employed to check the crystal structure of the composite while scanning electron microscopy for morphological characteristics of nanocomposites. Findings: Structure of the doped nanocomposite unaltered with the addition of a dopant. SEM shows that particle size of the composite is 50-70nm and in optical spectra up to 88% of transmission is observed. Yttrium oxide doped with chromium nanocomposite having direct band gap value as compared with the undoped chromium nanocomposite. Further, Organic sensitizers are doped with the composite and FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer) studies were carried out.
