Summary: | This essay discusses aspects of recent German scholarship on French history between 1789 and 1815. The author has chosen to focus on those books that document a turn towards a European perspective. After an introductory paragraph on the reorientation of German research on the Revolution after 1989, three methodological approaches are presented: first, studies that compare Revolutionary France with other countries; second, scholarship that examines the ties between France and Europe; and third, work that analyses the Revolution as a site of memory in France and Europe. |
