Summary: | Mick’s surviving partners recall him as practical and business minded, looking to the future; opening the surgery with space for expansion, with allied service providers such as chiropodists, dentists, and district nurses. Mick loved the challenge of rural general practice—for example, fixing rugby players’ dislocated shoulders (a skill he perfected, he told proudly, after reading a description of how to do it in a Dick Francis novel). Much loved by his patients, at his funeral they recalled a man who was “a very good nurse for a doctor,” a dedicated community GP of the old school, conscientious and hardworking, whose common sense told him when to send someone home to bed with an aspirin and when to jump into urgent action, and “a family man whose brain was the fount of all knowledge in the days before Google.” |
