Summary: | The National Health Education Competencies (National Commission for Health Education Credentialing) and the Public Health Core Competencies (Council on Linkages for Public Health Practice) were compared qualitatively in order to determine the extent to which overlap existed between the two. Results showed that a significant number of competencies were similar (33%). Results have implications for pre- and in-service training for public health professionals including health educators, hiring practices in public health, and marketing of health education graduates.
