Summary:Marrero looks at how gender and sexuality initially were subsumed by nation-building and political concerns, and ultimately how these representational possibilities have multiplied in Latino theater and performance in the late 1990s. Some of the Latina/o work written and produced from the mid-1980s through the 1990s radically displaces and challenges heterosexual and patriarchal privileges, both within and outside of the Hispanic cultures.
