Summary: | The disposal of industrial wastes and the reinstatement of contaminated land is a problem encountered in many countries. The paper describes how a derelict, contaminated site was turned into a quality housing development. The problems which made previous attempts at transforming the site impractical are outlined. The motives and objectives of the parties involved are discussed, as are the contract strategy, and the identification and allocation of risk. Complete precontract cooperation in relation to planning, risk allocation and cashflow, so that unforseen problems could be overcome, is highlighted. |
