Summary:Gastrointestinal toxicity induced by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is among the most common serious adverse drug events in the industrialized world. While cyclooxygenase-2 selective NSAIDs are effective in reducing the risk of symptomatic ulcers, careful postmarketing surveillance will be required to determine their ultimate benefit and safety profile.
