Outbreak of Multidrug-Resistant Salmonella Newport—United States, January-April 2002

An estimated 1.4 million cases of Salmonellosis occur annually in the US. This report is the first to associate eating of ground beef, specifically raw or undercooked ground beef, with Newport MDR-AmpC infection.
