Summary:The Elder Friendly Communities Program. The Elder Friendly Communities Program started as a research and demonstration project and is now a sustainably funded program. The program is based on principles of vital involvement, neighborhood based community development and collaborative advantage. Research indicates that community development at the neighborhood level is a promising strategy for engaging older adults and that collaboration among participating organizations promotes the program's success. Elder Friendly Communities has been replicated and adopted as policy in the State of South Australia.
