Summary: | Oleic acid coated magnetic nano particles and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) coated carbon nano fibers are suspended in an aqueous medium. Under the application of very low magnetic field (∼500 Oe), the physically adsorbed magnetic nanoparticles with carbon nanofibers are spatially aligned. The external magnetic field aligns the magnetic moment of the particles and consequent body forces align the carbon nanofibers. This alignment is studied using a microscope attached with computer and using a capillary viscometry. This form of orientation may be very useful for various nanofluidics and nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS). |
