Summary:Acute torsion may also occur, leading to dramatic splenic infarction.3 Patients with wandering spleen may be asymptomatic or may have symptoms such as pelvic discomfort, nonspecific abdominal pain, and abdominal mass. Of the eight cases of wandering spleen associated with thrombopenia and treated with successful surgery, there were six splenectomies and two splenopexies.2, 4 It follows that the discovery of a chronic thrombocytopenia in a patient presenting atypical thoracic or abdominal pain obliges us to consider diagnosing a chronic subtorsion associated with a wandering spleen before fixing on purpura idiopathic thrombopenia.
