Summary: | This article discusses some of the ethical issues that arise from the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), such as the low effectiveness rate of CPR, the health of the patient and his/her possibility of successful resuscitation, and the quality of life expected after CPR. In the absence of a patient's living will specifying the patient's wishes on this matter, the doctors must make the decision based on these factors; a survey of hospitals which have chosen not to preform CPR is provided. |
