Description
Summary:In the plywood industry, the accepted method for evaluating percent of failed wood in a plywood shear sample has been to use a visual approximation. Image analysis utilizing video scanning and computer digital analysis for automated measurement of the percent wood failure was investigated in this study. Both a gray scale and a red, green, blue (RGB) system were investigated. Each method provided accurate and rapid measurements of the percent wood failure on the surfaces of the samples when there was a distinct contrast pattern presented by the wood and the glue. However, the measurements using the RGB system were much closer to those recorded by visual estimation even for those samples that lacked diverse contrast patterns
