Description
Summary:Lease hunting is becoming an increasingly popular activity on forest industry lands. A survey was conducted of 1989 forest industry hunt-lease programs in the southern United States. Leasing generated revenue in the form of lease fees ($2.15/acre) and implicit values in the form of access control ($3.11/acre) and public relations ($2.15/acre). Respondents owned an average of 439,069 acres and leased an average of 305,106 acres. Respondents who routinely considered leasing income in their financial analyses tended to be larger and leased more land than the average respondent. They were also more likely than the average respondent to actively manage their land for wildlife abundance. The values of lease fees and other benefits are expected to increase over the next 5 years. Public relations values are expected to increase somewhat less than the other benefits and 15 percent of the respondents expect these values to decrease
