Description
Summary:Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture is a new and ambitious twenty-eight volume series of patristic translations, offering excerpts from the commentaries and homilies of the Church Fathers on the entire text of the Bible. In his general introduction to the series Thomas C. Oden sets forth the three principal goals as the renewal of Christian preaching based on classical Christian exegesis, the intensified study of Scripture by lay persons who wish to think with the early church about the canonical text, and the stimulation of Christian historical, biblical, theological and pastoral scholarship toward further inquiry into the scriptural interpretations of the ancient Christian writers. (1a. xi, italics in original) The ACC intends to give pastors and non-professional readers access to the meaning of the Bible by providing them with verse-by-verse ancient Christian commentary in contemporary and readable English translations.
