Summary: | [...]Balzhiser Morton's suggestion that "we need more research from which to base our models and theories" is true, but not practicable given the climate that drives the growth of distance education. When I do lapse into traditional class instruction, my experience with rigid organization, so critical to alternative approaches, also infuses my traditional instructional methods. [...]I don't take issue with any of the questions Balzhiser Morton raises, but stating that we should reject distance education until all the results are in isn't going to help us stay competitive. [...]the research that needs to be done in distance education must include graduate students, whose careers will be critically impacted by distance education. Since that first venture, I have continued to develop and modify instructional approaches that incorporate Web-based instruction described in my article, and I have continued to encourage graduate students to become involved in alternative, technology-based approaches to delivering education. |
