Description
Summary:Surface-hardened materials obtained by cladding of boron carbide powder on low-carbon steel substrates using an electron beam injected into the air atmosphere were investigated. It was established during structural investigations that accelerated cooling led to the formation of cladded layers with a heterogeneous structure. The volume fraction of hardening particles in the cladded layers had a great influence on the characteristics of the materials under investigation and depended on the boron carbide concentration into a saturating mixture. It was found that electron-beam cladding of powder mixtures containing boron carbide at the air atmosphere contributed to enhancing abrasive resistance of low-carbon steel under conditions of loosely fixed abrasive particles in three times in comparison with high-carbon steel after heat treatment.
