Summary: | Low et al report a case of a 27-year-old woman, gravida 5 para 2, who was presented to the hospital at 16 + 5 weeks' gestation with a history of rupture of membranes and passing clear liquor. An ultrasound was performed. At laparotomy, uterine rupture was confirmed with the fetus and placenta in the abdominal cavity. The rupture was across the supra-cervical region beneath the bladder base, with extension to the left lateral uterine wall involving the broad ligament and extending down into the upper vagina. The uterus was repaired and she was subsequently discharged from hospital. They conclude that judicious use of misoprostol for mid-trimester medical management of IUFD should be exercised for women with a history of either repeat surgery to the cervix, or surgical uterine evacuation, or both. |
