Description
Summary:THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY IS TO REVIEW THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF USING MULTIPLE GROUPS AS RATERS. A SET OF TECHNIQUES IS EXPLAINED WHEREBY ORGANIZATIONS CAN ASSESS THE PERSPECTIVES OF THE POTENTIAL RATER GROUPS, DIAGNOSE THEIR DEGREE OF DIFFERENCE AND SIMILARITY, AND UTILIZE THE RESULTS OF SUCH A DIAGNOSIS TO STRENGTHEN THEIR PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL ( PA ) SYSTEM. THE ADVANTAGES OF MULTIPLE RATER GROUPS INCLUDE - 1. THEY FACILITATE THE GENERATION OF A LARGER DATA BASE ON WHICH TO MAKE PERSONAL DECISIONS. 2. THEY FACILITATE THE IDENTIFICATION OF EXTREMELY BIASED OR OUT OF LINE RATINGS. 3. THEY ALLOW FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF PERFORMANCE FROM MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVES OR VANTAGE POINTS. DIFFERENCES ACROSS POTENTIAL RATER GROUPS CAN BE ASSESSED BY USING 3 DIFFERENT DATA GATHERING TECHNIQUES - 1. GENERATING SEPARATE SETS OF CRITERIA, 2. ASSESSING OBSERVATIONAL FREQUENCIES, AND 3. ASSESSING DIFFERENCES IN PERSPECTIVES TOWARD PERFORMANCE. CHARTS. REFERENCES.
