1, 10-Phenanthroline: A new highly effective promoter for formic acid electro-oxidation

Summary: | 1, 10-Phenanthroline (Phen) as a new promoter has been found. Cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and CO-stripping tests reveals the Phen modified Pt electrode exhibits remarkably enhanced electrocatalytic activity and durability towards electro-oxidation of formic acid (EOFA). Particularly, the EOFA on Phen modified Pt electrode only follows desired dehydrogenation step.

In this work, we investigated 1, 10-Phenanthroline (Phen) as a new promoter on electro-oxidation of formic acid (EOFA). We found that:1.Phen as a promoter exhibits high electrocatalytic activity and durability to EOFA.2.The CO adsorption on the electrode was eliminated by the modification of Phen, which prevent the poison of catalyst.3.Phen modified Pt electrode only follows desired dehydrogenation step.4.The high promotion is attributed to sole dehydrogenation step for EOFA on Phen modified Pt electrode. |
