Summary:The conjunction of copyright and competition policy has emerged as one of the main controversies in copyright economics given the market power which the copyright endows the owner with over the protected work. The present paper explores key aspects underlying said controversy. By applying panel data techniques is found that for achieving a higher level of social welfare, competition policy and copyrights must be applied in a strong and complementary manner.
