Description
Summary:The data on the accumulation of metals and the content of low molecular weight antioxidants in the leaves of Typha latifolia L. naturally growing in the vicinity the Karabash copper smelter (Russia, Chelyabinsk region) are presented. It has been shown that prolonged technogenic exposure caused the development of chronic oxidative stress which was accompanied by the activation of the synthesis of free proline, phenolic compounds and thiol-containing compounds in the leaves of T. latifolia. Altogether, T. latifolia showed high adaptive potential to grow under prolonged extreme technogenic pollution.
