Summary:A course was developed with the aim of teaching first year college students the art of reading and writing which is generally found to be boring and complicated by the general student populace. A further goal is to begin defining and constructing their identity within an academic setting. A sense of self could be effectively achieved using autobiographical readings and writings based on the assumption that self-knowledge and reflection are critical to growth and development.
