Summary:Last winter, in my "Hashtag Activism" freshman composition course, about one third of student papers were about #MeToo or the Brock Turner rape case, which resulted in hashtags like #thingslongerthanBrockTurnersrapesentence and the viral and successful #RecallPersky campaign. Shouldn't we, as writing teachers, have answers to these questions-we, who engage more deeply with the contents of our students' thoughts than perhaps any other instructor at the college, who get to know the majority of freshmen on our campuses?
